Folds (2022)
Drawing inspiration from the movement in the manipulation of fabrics, this series seeks to reimagine abstract forms and negative space by incorporating colour combinations to enrich the visual journey. Materials that have been skilfully shaped and transformed, create sculptural effects, which , when viewed in a spatial setting, generate captivating and diverse patterns. This series was the beginning of a creative journey where the traditional actions of drawing and mark-making were explored through technology and the resulting outcomes were reproduced as a digital print on aluminium dibond.
When exhibited in 2022, the following comments were received;
“… the shapes are much freer now and have a life force, energy and rhythm to them - and the colour helps with that ... as they change from one image to another. The repetition of the blue is counterpoint agains the shifting yellow/orange forms. And the organic energy of the shapes, their switching of place, really has a musical sense - possibly also an evolutionary reading?” - K Andrews
“… this collection delves into the interplay between form and space, drawing inspiration from the mundane aspects of life to spark discussion on what we perceive as real or imagined. By embracing colour and line to highlight elements of the composition, a fresh understanding is brought to the forms that might initially seem straightforward.” - L Black
The interplay between colour and line is fundamental to the visual identity where the negative space creates an expectation in the viewer’s mind where the reality does not exist.
